Citet Tunisia

International Cooperation

«Today, the protection of the environment as a whole, just like sustainable development, cannot develop in isolation in any country.
The realisation of such objectives depends, in fact, to a large extent on an efficient international co-operation, a feeling of collective responsibility and an active solidarity between countries.»President Zine El Abidine Ben Ali15 January 2000
This partnership between all the countries of the world for a sustainable form of co-development brings together all environmental issues, and in particular skills development and strengthening southern countries capacities in the field of environmental protection, sustainable resource management and the master of eco-technologies, including their transfer, adaptation and productive use.

Set up in a framework of international co-operation to meet Tunisia’s needs first, the CITET has also a regional and international vocation, playing a central role in developing North-South, North-South-South, and South-South co-operation, in keeping with Tunisia’s favourable position and dynamism in Euro-Mediterranean and Arab-African spheres.

Assistance to Industry
The development of productive activities - industry, trade, tourism, and traditional handcrafts – is essential. However, the sustainable development of the country requires that businesses control and monitor their activity impact on the environment and the health of the population, while still continuing to expand.

Laboratories
The CITET has five laboratories, fully equipped with the high technology equipment, for the analysis, in the laboratory or on site, of the life cycle of a product and its impact on water, air and soil. The equipment available can satisfy a wide range of needs, both internal and external, right from sampling and the transport, storage and analysis of samples in accordance with the recognised procedures.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Training
The high awareness of the need for sustainable development has led to integrate the protection of the environment into all aspects of socio-economic activity.Tunisian businesses are currently implementing a major restructuring programme to enable them to complete effectively in the Euro-Mediterranean free-trade zone and at international level. Henceforth, these companies must take into account environmental factors in their plans and management systems, making them an integral part of their growth and profit.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ecotechnology transfer
The extensive use of natural resources and the degradation of the environment are serious phenomena, cost of which will be too heavy for future generations to bear. A sustainable approach to economic development assumes production and consumption systems based on technological choices which respect the potential of natural resources and the quality of the environment.
