Saudi Arabia import of gasoline

According to latest reports on Saudi Arabia export, import and trade this Middle Eastern country is supposed to reduce its imports of gasoline. Rate of reduction in this case is 29 percent and would be effective from June 2009 onwards. This decision comes after Saudi Arabia has successfully managed to increase its capacity after performing maintenance work that was necessary for same.

From June onwards Saudi Arabia, which is top exporter of oil in world and perhaps most crucial member of OPEC, would now be importing gasoline at a rate of 57,000 barrels on a daily basis. Previously it used to import 80,000 barrels of gasoline on a daily basis.

On an average Saudi Arabia used to import gasoline at a monthly rate of 60,000 to 70,000 barrels per day. However, of late it had to increase its imports owing to problems that took place in a hydrocracking refinery that had a capacity of 44,000
barrels per day. This unit is located at biggest refinery of Saudi Arabia - Ras Tanura.

Saudi Arabia import of gasoline had also gone up in order to carry out maintenance work that had been planned previously in Riyadh refinery that has a capacity of 120,000 barrels per day. This import of gasoline would be reduced further once a planned project at Rabigh is up and running.
